You cannot visit Abu Dhabi without noticing, and certainly going to, the Grand Mosque. Sheik Zayed Mosque is a sight to behold and I have been waiting patiently to visit. Last night we decided to just go, on a whim, after dinner for a quick peek. We hoped to catch the sunset, but were a few minutes too late. Oh well, this is the first of many visits, I’m sure.
I first “saw” the mosque in early 2008 when some friends happened to visit Abu Dhabi.
Things look a bit different now!
My first photos do not do this magnificent building justice. We’ve been to some significant structures, buildings, cathedrals, etc. and being inside this mosque I had the feeling we were in something truly, truly special. The immense amount of details in the mosaics, and the carpets, and the walls, and the chandeliers, oh my! It’s breathtaking.
All photos are mine. Please forgive lens distortion and grainy quality as I’m still learning how to photograph with my wide angle lens 🙂
